Healthiest Water for Cooking and Drinking
You are not only “what you eat” but “what you drink.” As most Americans are dehydrated, the most important advise is to simply drink more water. The minimum should be to drink half your body weight in water. As we respire 2.5 ltre. a day we have to at least replace that what is lost.
Good water can help you achieve excellent health and vitality. The type and quality of water used during food preparation and cooking is important because the contaminants and properties of that water are absorbed into our foods. A simple test will demonstrate this. Buy chlorine and a pH tester kit from your local pool supply or hardware store. Add chlorine tester drops to a glass of unfiltered chlorinated tap water and it will turn a deeper shade of yellow depending on the amount of chlorine present in the water. Then add fresh slices of an onion, carrot, apple or lemon to the yellow solution and let it soak for 1-2 minutes and then pour the water into another glass and that water will be clear. What happened to the chlorine? It was absorbed by the food! What other contaminants might be in the water that is absorbed into our food? Washing our organic produce with tap water simply contaminates our produce.
To view an important video outlining the hazards of acidic water and the benefits of alkaline water view:
“Each day, millions of Americans turn on their taps and get water that exceeds the legal limits for dangerous contaminants.”
“Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.”
U.S. Council of Environmental Quality
Tap water can be purified by carbon filters, reverse osmosis, distillation and the next step beyond these filtration methods, electrolyzed (ionized) water. Tap Water, depending on where we live, may contain chlorine, minerals and undesirable contaminants such as: rust, sediment, organochlorides like: trihalomethanes, lead, hydrogen sulfide, barium, cadmium, arsenic, fluoride, nitrates, benzene, etc.
Granular Activated Carbon Filters create an increased surface area that can absorb many of the toxic chemicals and organisms found in tap water.
Reverse Osmosis uses high pressure to push water through a membrane filter to remove contaminants.
Distillation removes contaminants by boiling water to produce a vapor which is collected and cooled back into 99.9% pure liquid water.
While filtration methods such as these may remove undesirable taste and most of the contaminants such as chlorine, detergents, parasites, pesticides, bacteria, viruses, and cancer-causing chemicals, it can also remove beneficial minerals such as Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium, etc. Water produced by these filtration methods is called dead water because the water produced tends to be acidic, has large water clusters and has free radicals (oxidizing) known to accelerate aging and cause disease. Drinking these types of water regularly (acidic and large water clusters) can cause mineral depletion in the body and are thus, counterproductive for health, well being and adequate hydration.
Electrolyzed “Ionized” Water is not only pure but, is micro-clustered (groups of 5-6 water molecules per cluster) and alkaline water (above 7 pH) that is high in antioxidant properties for drinking and acidic (below 7 pH) water for other antiseptic uses. Remember I spoke about acid alkaline balance in your diet? This is just as important.
I have recently discovered a medical grade water ionizer device from Japan manufactured by a company called Enagic, In. www.enagic.com. The company is 36 yrs. old and is the only Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) with an impressive list of certifications and awards including Medical Device and Environmental Awards. The water produced by their machine is trademarked Kangen.
The only water ionizers I recommend are those produced by Enagic. They are a company with the highest integrity, craftsmanship, certifications, awards and superior quality. The machine I bought for my family, the SD501, has a 5 year warranty and is expected to last me 15-20 years. To learn more about the water produced by their machines and how you have your own unit visit my website:”>http://www.h2origin.com/suzanne> (www.waterwithlife.com) and educate yourself about the industry by exploring: www.watermythsandtruths.comter myths and truths.
Do I feel a difference with this water? Oh, yes! Always trying to drink more water to keep myself hydrated it seemed I was also spending equal amount of time in the ladies room feeling as the water was not absorbing and passing right through, which of course it was. Now, I feel hydrated and can feel my body absorb this water better. My skin and hands are soft and my nails are getting harder! I’m a chef with perpetually soft nails and dry skin because of my hands always being in water. My husband’s sinuses are clearing after years of childhood stuffiness and we are both sleeping better. Weight loss is happening for two friends of mine as they drink more alkalized water. Detoxification can begin to happen when you start to consume water that is 8.5 pH (very alkalizing) but remember to drink a large quantity of water to keep your system detoxifying. For optimum health drink 8.5 pH but for healing and detox 9.0 pH and 9.5pH is better. By the way, we have tested every bottled water out there and the majority of them are acidic from 4.5 to 6.5 with a few neutral 7.0pH. Before I learned about this water I was drinking R.O. (reverse osmosis) in which I added back some trace minerals thinking I was doing a good job of increasing the quality of my water and when we tested the water it was a 4.5pH (very acidic) without the anti-oxidants found in the Kangen treated water.
Bottled Water – what you don’t know:
In March of 1999, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) released a report called “Bottled Water, Pure Drink or Pure Hype?” This report points out that that 60% to 70% of all bottled water is completely exempt from the FDA’s bottled water standards, because it is bottled and sold within the same state. Unless the water is transported across state lines, there are no federal regulations that govern its quality!
The Natural Resources Defense Council report concluded that, “therefore, while much tap water is indeed risky, having compared available data, we conclude that there is no assurance that bottled water is any safer than tap water.”
The reality of bottled water is that you pay from $1 to $4 a gallon for the perception of higher quality, when in fact the quality of bottled water is at best an unknown. Quality home water treatment is by far the most economical, the most convenient and the best way to produce truly healthy, great-tasting water. It is also the right choice environmentally!
